Facts and History

Around the house are olive trees, a large pool area and on the road an orchard and an open car park belonging to the estate. The area of the pool and lounge area is completely surrounded by a fence.

The property is located at approximately 480 meters altitude. On the range of the Chianti Hills. There is a wide view of the Arno valley (in Italian: 'Valdarno' ). To the north, towards Florence, and to the south in the direction of Arezzo.

Casignano is a hamlet, just outside but part of the small town of Castelnuovo dei Sabbioni (800 m distance), both belong to the the municipality of Cavriglia (5 km). In Castelnuovo dei Sabbioni there are: an excellent butcher, a greengrocer, a small supermarket, two bars, post office, bank, pharmacy, church. On Mondays there is a small market on the Piazza.

The street in front of the house is according to historians an old Etruscan road and was also used in the middle ages by merchants and pilgrims as a link between the Arno Valley and the Chianti hills. Approximately 300m from our house within the Borgo Casignano there is a small Romanesque church, San Lorenzo, from the 12th century (private property).
 

The oldest part of the house (the tower in Tre Fiori and the kitchen in Poggio Oliveto) was built in the early 17th century. In the following centuries, more parts were added. At times, the house was in possession of the church. Up to the 80s of the last century Chianti wine was grown and sold (picture in the kitchen of Poggio Oliveto).
Our family acquired the house in 2012 and renovated and modernized almost everything. It is intended for us as a family and for you, our guests. We tried to get as much as possible of the original Tuscan flair and yet to get a modern technical standard. In case you are interested: We installed our own waste water treatment, new water mains, electric lines, windows with mosquito nets, heating and hot water with solar. During the summertime the hot water will be produced eco friendly by solar power. If the solar heated water runs out, the system will change to natural gas power automatically, but this case has not yet happened during summer months.

The property includes approx. 280 olive trees and various fruit trees.
When the fruit is ripe, you are welcome to harvest for your own consumption during your stay. Please help yourselves.
